Italy Gallipoli – Things to do.
Gallipoli truly stole my heart. Think of Nonnas hanging out of their wood-shuttered windows, conversing with each other across the tiny streets, twisty lanes where old battered pick-up trucks full of local veg arrive to sell to the locals, and cafes and restaurants where the waiters do not speak English. HEAVEN. So you should absolutely add this place to your list! Below, you will see some of my favourite things to do or see in Gallipoli, Italy.
Visit One of the Stunning Beach Clubs in Gallipoli
We loved Baia Verde with it’s classic yellow and white umbrellas. If you are staying in the old town of Gallipoli (which you should!), it’s just a short taxi ride away. The beaches here are so crystal clear, it looks like something from the Caribbean.
Gallipoli Cathedral
This is a nice place to pop in early evening and have a wander round. Truly beautiful interiors and character. Evidently, it is located right in the centre of the old town therefore you can’t miss it and you will likely have lots of opportunities to visit.
Best dinner in Gallipoli, Italy: Gustavo
Address: Gustavo, Braceria Via Gallipoli, 48 73044 Galatone. See their instagram here.
This is an absolute MUST visit! It is however a taxi journey out of town… but this one is truly incredible and so worth the 15 minute taxi. Gustavo have a set menu where they serve what is in season and whatever main dish the owner has crafted that day, there is no physical menu to browse. Consequently you get what you’re given, which is divine and they catered for my vegetarian needs. The set menu was €30 per person (in September 2023), a glorious carafe of red wine was just €14 and the taxi cost €30 each way from Gallipoli centre.
Best Sandwich in Gallipoli, Italy: Baguetteria De Pace
Address: Via Sant’Angelo, 8, 73014 Gallipoli LE. See their instagram here.
Wow, wow, wow. This sandwich shop is certainly another level. Therefore, you have to get one of these whilst in Gallipoli! Freshly baked breads, hand-filled with whatever local delicious toppings you like. I went for a classic burrata, tomatoes and an olive tapenade with fresh leaves and by God. You can either sit and eat in the cute little shop filled with old artefacts or take away. Basically, perfect for a lunch to bring to the beach or, like we did to the airport. They do close for a siesta so therefore make sure you go at lunchtime or in the evening as they are closed mid-afternoon. This is probably the best sandwich I’ve ever eaten. So don’t miss out!
So I hope you found these tips for Italy, Gallipoli useful and if you are are going to Gallipoli soon (or maybe you’re there right now!) … just know that I am jealous of you. And bring me back a sandwich god damn it.
