6 Unmissable Things To Do In Munnar
THIS POST: Covers six great things to do in Munnar, Kerala. We spread these out over a couple of days. You could spread them out more and do one or two things a day and mix and match it with some chill time.
Top Tips for Things to do in Munnar, Kerala.
- Leave a morning or a few hours for the Kannan Devan Tea Plantation. And don’t forget to buy some chai here to take home! Nice place for little gifts such as tea, incense sticks etc.
- You may need to wait around a bit for a tour to start.
- Don’t miss visiting Manoj’s farm!
- Once again, we found our preferred way of getting around was to hire a tuk tuk driver for the day or a couple of days.
1. Kannan Devan Hill Station – Tea Plantation and Museam in Munnar
This is a must if you are in Munnar! The scenery is stunning. Vivid green tea plants coat the land for almost as fas as the eye can see!
You can visit this plantation between 9 am to 5 pm, except on Monday’s when it is closed. I believe the tour fee is 200 rupees with an additional 50 rupees for a camera. That translates to £2.46, which is definitely worth the visit, in my opinion!
I don’t think some poeple got to walk through the plantation itself, make sure you enquire about this when you ask for the tour. We had to wait a little bit for a guide to come and walk with us around the plantation, but it was amazing and definitely worth it.
We got to meet some incredible women who were picking tea on the plantation at the time of our visit.
As someone who works in the coffee sourcing industry, I found this tour fascinating. We got to see the tea being processed and the employees (upon seeing us interested in what they were doing) were more than happy to let us take a closer look.

2. The Ponmudi Dam
This is a great place to spend an hour or so, just wandering around the dam. The dam is a hydroelectric project built across the Panniar River, a tributuary of the longest river in Kerala.
Its a very calm and enjoyable setting with some decent photo opportunites. We met a group of Indian students here who were also visiting to check out what the dam had to offer.
3.Jump In A Pedalo At The Dam&Dale Tourism Project At Ponmudi Reservoir
This is a recent tourism project where you can rent pedalos, water boats for children, as well as some weird floating bicycle thing and they also have horse rides here.
It’s a nice way to see more of the landscape up close and personal. The landscape here really is impressive and wildy intrusive. We were the only people there and I think it’s also nice to support the local tourism projects of the area, if possible.
4. The Munnar Hanging Bridge
The hanging bridge is a solid addition to your list of things to do in Munnar. It was built to aid heavy vehicles needing to get to the dam. It’s pretty impressive to walk across. Again some good photo opportunities here!
There are also a couple of stalls here where local people sell their produce and snacks.
5. The Ripple Waterfalls, Munnar
These waterfalls are a really nice pitstop. Although the waterfalls aren’t particularly impressive by height, they are still lovely. The entrance fee was small, I don’t remember the cost exactly unfortunately.
There is also a little walk that is laid out via metal railings for you to take, with some different viewpoints of the falls, if you fancy it.
6. Manoj’s farm
Now this one…I don’t actually know the name of the farm, but the farmer is called Manoj. He is the neighbour of Ragamaya Resort and Spa. Ragamaya Hotel will organise a morning visiting their neighbour Manoj where he gives a tour of his farm and this is UNMISSABLE! To read more about our stay at Ragamaya please visit my India Collection here.
If you contact Ragamaya, they will be able to organise the trip for you. It was so interesting, having Manoj explain what he farms, how and generally walking around his land. And my, my is his land beautiful.
He walked us all the way down his hill to the Punmudi reservoir where the view will honestly blow your mind. Civilisation is nowhere to be seen and the view over the reservoir and surrounding land is truly stunning. I have never seen anything like it.
When we visited it seemed to be dragonlfy season and there were so many in the air, I cant even explain it. Really magical. The epitome of magical, in fact.
We ended the tour with Manoj serving us a coffee he had grown himself. One of my favourite mornings in India.
