Looking for the best luxury boutique hotel in Munnar? This place is NO JOKE. You will feel like you’ve stepped through the wardrobe and into Narnia. Especially if you arrive in the dark, like we did!

I say the best luxury boutique hotel in Munnar, but that doesn’t have to mean at an outrageous price… A double room with lake view, including breakfast cost us £41 per person per night. I’d say that was pretty great value for money.

Munnar Itself

This part of Munnar, Kerala in South India is still to this day (and I strongly believe may always be) the most beautiful place I have been fortunate enough to see. It is nestled amongst the Western Ghats, surrounded by cardamom hills, tea plantations, tiger and forest reserves and reservoirs.

We approached Munnar just as the darkness started to settle around us, bringing our 5 hour transfer from Kochi to a close.

This meant the jaw-dropping view from Ragamaya was witheld until the next morning, when we sleepily opened the curtains to the mist-filled jungle and river below and quite literally thought we had stumbled into a Rudyard-Kipling-Jungle-Book sort of heaven.

The Best Luxury Pool, Though….

The pool was the real show-stopper.

Although not the largest pool in town, with an infinity-style backdrop and that view over the jungle below, quality sunbeds and a peaceful surrounding, it was truly stunning.

The Atmosphere At This Boutique Hotel In Munnar

It was extremely quiet when we visited, which was in October 2019. There was barely anyone else there! Which personally, I loved.

It did mean we had to create our own atmosphere at times in the restaurant when it was empty, but my bestie Nicee and I are no stranger to entertaining ourselves. We are now pro at reeling off Disney and Littlemix compilations at the drop of a hat.

The quiet atmosphere didn’t bother us but some may prefer a hotel with more of a ‘vibe’.

The Food At Ragamaya Boutique Hotel

The small number of guests also meant we could get the best tables at Breakfast. The food at Ragamaya is wonderful, and the view from the restaurant….unbeatable.

Breakfasts consisted of Ela Ada, Idiyappam and Idlis with sambar, and delicious breads and fresh fruit too.

Our time at this luxury boutique hotel in Munnar was truly special and it would be a dream to go back one day. The setting, view and location is beyond unforgettable.

The view of the Ponmudi reservoir, carving its lazy, winding way through the misty jungle below is a sight that will be seared into my memory forever.
