About Le Sirenuse

If you’re going to Positano, you may have heard that Le Sirenuse is ‘the place to go’. Le Sirenuse opened in 1951, as the result of four siblings turning their summer house in Positano into a beautiful hotel. It is now considered one of Italy’s leading luxury hotels.

John Steinbeck, who visited in 1953, wrote this and it could not be more true: ‘Positano bites deep. It is a dream place that isn’t quite real when you are there and becomes beckoningly real after you have gone.’

Can I Walk in or Should I Reserve a Table?

You can walk in… but its a big risk. Therefore, I would definitely recommend booking ahead for Le Sirenuse. Well ahead. We went towards the end of the season (late September). Due to this, the weather had taken a turn for the worst and so my well thought out, reserved table at the Aldo’s Bar and Grill section of the hotel had to be cancelled, due to it’s exposed location.

We managed to walk in and luckily got a table for drinks at the sheltered, aptly-named ‘Dont Worry’ Bar, but ironically the weather turned out glorious. If heading to this part of the hotel, see if you can reserve a table at the front of the balcony for an uninterrupted view.

Ensure you don’t miss the sunset here! And godamn, get in a bloody photoshoot at that balcony. Go and ask someone to take photos of you. Insta-ready images drip from every inch of Le Sirenuse.

The Menu Pricing at Le Sirenuse, Positano

Make no mistake – This menu is not for the faint hearted or those watching their pennies. As a quick overview:

  • Water – €7
  • Soda/Fizzy drink – €11
  • Most cocktails – €25
  • Tea (if you’re going here for tea…. mate…) €12

The service at Le Sirenuse was good, and the drinks, yes top class. However what you’re really here for is the stunning view across the bay of Positano. And wow, it really is jaw-dropping. More about whether the visit is worth the money towards the end of this post.

Dress Code at Le Sirenuse

Is there one? I think each bar/restaurant in the hotel will have its own vibe, I don’t believe there is a set dress code, unless maybe you are heading to their seriously fancy, illuminated-by-four-hundred-candles La Sponda Restaurant.

Sunset at Le Sirenuse

Le Sirenuse is a place where the people are sophisticated, and they dress accordingly, including the staff. I felt a familiar stab of regret standing there in my faded jeans and ‘nice top’, which suddenly didn’t look so nice. Therefore, if you’ve got your fave dress / shirt with you, I reckon Le Sirenuse is the place to wear it.

Is It Worth A Visit?

Le Sirenuse isn’t your cosy, traditional Italian bar on the corner. Its a fancy, upmarket hotel with that wow factor. The kind of place I imagine people would go to propose/ get married/ celebrate a special occasion. And my MY is it beautiful!

I would say yes It’s worth a visit. Let’s face it, if you’re going to Positano you probably know that it’s not the cheapest place on Earth. However, if you’re trying to keep the spending in check, I’d recommend doing what we did. Get there before sunset, have one drink, stay an hour or so, and then hit up a lovely more wallet-friendly trattoria for dinner afterwards. Although, if you’re seriously concerned about the pennies then maybe Le Sirenuse isn’t the place for you… Hell, maybe Positano is not the place for you!
