Monte Solaro – All you need to know about the best chairlift ever.
This post: In this post, I will be covering how you get the Capri chairlift, what it costs, what its like at the top, and some top tips!
Top Tips for the Capri Chairlift!
- It can get breezy, yo. Might wanna bring a jumper? And sunglasses!
- Consider if you want a one way or return ticket
- Be warned – you’re ridin’ solo and the chairs aren’t THAT big
- Low season = more chance of getting a sunchair at the top and a dreamy peaceful ride up
- Fight for your life for a table and sunchairs overlooking the insane view
- Fuck the prices, buy some wine and have a delightful time
What is Monte Solaro?
Well Monte Solaro is actually the name of the mountain on Capri Island. However there is an AWESOME chair lift which takes you to the top. With an elevation of 589 metres this ride is not to be missed!
How do I get the chairlift?
Get yourselves to The Seggiovia Di Monte Solaro (Seggiovia means chairlift). This is at Via Caposcuro, 10, 80071 Anacapri NA, Italy. This is located in Anacapri, which is about a 10-15 minute car ride from Capri town centre.
How Much Does it Cost to Ride the Capri Chairlift?
At the time of our visit (September 2020) the chairlift cost €12 for a return ticket. You can get a one-way ticket for €9. “Why would you get a one way ticket?” I hear you ask… Well there is a path up the mountain and I believe some people like to get the lift up and walk down, or maybe vice versa?….
Whats the Chairlift Like?
The tiniest bit daunting when you’re trying to gauge how the chair will catch you, I won’t lie! Kind of like a ski chairlift, but…weird coz you’re not on ski’s. However, once you’re on it, its incredible! They are single little wooden chairs so you can’t pair up with a mate, everyone’s ridin’ solo!
Being on the chairlift was super lovely and peaceful. A really wonderful moment of calm in amongst the excitement.
A word of warning, they’re not the biggest chairs in the world, I’m a UK size 14 and I fitted comfortably but they weren’t THAT much bigger than me. It took around 10 minutes to get to the top. Oh and the wind can pick up up there so think about bringing a jumper or summat. And defo sunglasses!
What’s it Like at the Top of this Capri Mountain?
Bloody GLORIOUS, I tell you. GLORIOUS. There’s a bar (with rather high prices, but hey thats a captive audience at its most…well, captive) selling wine, beer, snacks etc.
There are also some tables and lovely sunchairs dotted around the edges, looking out at the view. And that view, WOW. You can see all of the Bay of Naples and the Amalfi coast, and it feels like you’re on top of the world. And sat on those sunchairs with glass of wine in hand, you bloody will be, let me tell you.
There are many areas for taking awesome photos and some places to sit etc. We visited at the end of the season in September and found the last available chairs to sit on, so I imagine getting a table and chairs here in the summer months is like finding a needle in a haystack. P.S – I bet sunset here is to die for.
What I also loved about being here in low season was that there were maybe three other people that passed us on the chairlift? Because of this, it really felt like you were up there on your own, in a world of quiet solitude. Until you get to the top and join the wine-drinkers!
Should I ride the chairlift in Capri?
Abso-fucking-lutely.
