Beach Clubs In Sorrento ~ A Day at Leonelli’s
Want to spend some time at a beach club in Sorrento? Here’s the deets…
THIS POST: In this post, I will be covering getting to Leonelli’s Beach Club in Sorrento (where it seems most of the beach clubs are) how expensive it is, a menu overview, what it’s like and some top tips!
Top Tips for Leonelli’s Beach Club!
- See if you can call in advance to reserve some beds
- Bring a towel if you don’t want to pay for one, as they aren’t included
- Bring some change for the lift!
- Don’t confuse this with Dubai/Ibiza-style beach clubs…Theres no music/party, it’s just some sunbeds, the sea and a bar/restaurant.
Leonelli’s Beach Club In Sorrento
Leonelli’s Beach Club has been in their family for three generations. It was recommended to us by the incredible Mario from Milo Tours.
Mario had spent the previous day driving us around Campania and ensuring we got to walk up Mt Vesuvius. We had mentioned to him that we would love to visit a beach club the following day and he immediately said “You need to go to Leonelli’s!”
Mario is a truly fantastic guide who can organise bespoke trips for you, so go check him out right here.
Getting to Leonelli’s
Leonelli’s Beach Club is situated at Via Marina Piccola, 55. 80067 Sorrento (NA) Italy. I used apple maps (error) to get us there. We ended up finally getting to the top of the cliff where you can look down at Leonelli’s and the other beach clubs. But how to get down there?…
There is a set of steps which will take you down to the beach clubs in Sorrento. Beware it is alot of steps. So when it comes to getting back up to the top of the cliff at the end of the day (especially if it’s still hot and you’ve had a few wines) there is a lift which you can use. However, it does require some change to operate the lift! I think it was €1???…..Sorry. Bad memory.
What’s it like at The Beach Club?
Beach Clubs in Sorrento have limited sand and so alot of them are built on rock/promenades out into the sea. Leonelli’s is no exception, although it does apparently boast the largest sand stretch of all the beach clubs if you’d prefer to sit there.
We were very lucky in that Mario had ensured some beds were reserved for us, so I would suggest calling and seeing if you can also reserve your beds.
Although the promenades can appear a bit clinical from afar, dont let that put you off going.
Once you’re on them and looking out at the ocean or at the incredible cliffs of Sorrento, it’s truly stunning. Sorrento boasts crystal clear, warm waters with steps from your promenade directly into the sea…it’s just wonderful.
Is it Expensive at Leonelli’s?
Pleasantly, NO! Not at all, in my opinion! Upon arrival, you pay a fee for a bed and umbrella. We were visiting in low season so it was cheap, I think around €9 each. I believe it’s usually around €14 in high season, still a deal in my opinion. You can also pay extra to rent towels. Sorry I don’t remember how much they were, MUST get better at noting stuff down.
The food and drink at Leonelli’s was SO reasonable. I was honestly shocked. For a beach club in Sorrento, I was expecting much worse! Check out this little menu sample I’ve put together:
- Margherita Pizza €9
- Spaghetti with tomato sauce €9
- Spaghetti with mussels €13
- Mixed fried fish €14
- Coffee €1.50
- Water €3
- Beer €4
- Bottles of wine start at €20! They also do half bottles
- Bottle of Prosecco €25
So cheap! There are more expensive options of course such as steak, other fishes etc. The food was good, not out of this world but absolutely fine. You can either eat at the restaurant or get the food delivered to your beds.
Note: In Italy, pasta’s are usually listed as ‘first course’ which may lead you to think it will be a small/starter size portion…but they are not! It’s a full on bowl of pasta. Amazing. Lots of veggie options too.
So, Let’s Wrap it up!
If you’re in Sorrento, you should definitely hit up Leonelli’s, its super reasonable and a lovely chilled day out. In fact, we took an hour bus journey from Positano to go to this beach club and it was worth it for such a lovely relaxed day at Leonelli’s.
You should also pick up the phone to Mario, as he is a wizard and can organise literally anything for you!
